Current newsletter: April 2008

Welcome to the first edition of the 2008 New Zealand Early Intervention newsletter. It has been a year since the last newsletter was circulated but this is by no means a reflection of the paucity of industry and passion which abound in the Early Psychosis field. Read on. It is more so a reflection of how incredibly busy our past newsletter editor was with helping establish a new EIPS in Nelson, raising a family and taking on new roles left right and centre.

This busyness has included being catapulted into the position of chairperson of the Executive in September last year – no real surprise – Lois is widely thought of as a National Early Intervention treasure. A huge thank you must go to Lois who has brilliantly presented the newsletter 17 times since its inception in 2003 – truly awesome.

My name is Grant Ritchie and I am a nurse working in the southern most Early Intervention in Psychosis Service on the mainland, in New Zealand and indeed in the world – Aspiring House inDunedin. Crickey, that sounds…well, almost impressive. However, not quite as impressive as Lois' hopes for this newsletter in the first edition in July 2003 and I quote:
One of the most beneficial aspects of attending training forums has always been the networking, swapping info and resources and seeing, from one forum to the next how a germ of an idea has developed into a service or aspect of service that benefits early intervention clients.
I’m hoping this newsletter will be a way of us keeping in touch between forums and continuing that sharing of ideas that proves to be so valuable.
My other hope for this newsletter is that it will start small and develop over time to include a website similar to the Early Psychosis Australia website detailed later in this newsletter.
These hopeful words of 2003 have come to fruition and will hopefully continue to do so. One way this can happen is for you to contribute to this newsletter and share all the beneficial aspects of your practice. There is plenty of opportunity to contribute to the newsletter through:

Regional News, Book/article and web reviews, questions you may wish to ask other practitioners, newsletter ideas, feedback, profiles...
